Octavian is always so damn hot. But they didn't ask "can you sing awesome high A's?" in the quiz, so I'm suspicious. :)

Which Trouser Role Are You?

You're Count Octavian Maria Ehrenreich Bonaventura Fernand Hyacinth Rofrano! Impetuous and fickle but a nobleman through and through. You fall in love at the drop of a handkerchief, and you're hopelessly naive about the labyrinths of the human heart, especially your own. Still, you're young and gallant and you look damn good in silver breeches. In your spare time, you enjoy dressing like a chambermaid and playing dirty tricks on lecherous old men.

And it is, in fact, correct.

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Western. Like Midland, Western is another accent that people consider neutral. So, you might not actually be from the Western half of the country, but you definitely sound like it.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

darcydodo: (white horse)
Sounds about right. ;) Though if I'd gotten one more question right (and there were a couple I was dithering on), it would have dubbed me English. So [livejournal.com profile] tigupine can go be happy now, or something.

You are 79% English.

You are either native and stupid, or you are foreign and knowledgeable.

"And did those feet
In ancient times,
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
In England's pleasant pastures seen?"

Well, no, but it's a cracking good tune.

How English are you?

Technically, I know, when I say words like "stock" and "stalk," they sound the same, but I picture them as slightly different in my head, and in my mouth-shape. If I answer that way, though, it claims I have a midland accent, which I don't. So if I go with how I know they actually come out of my mouth, then it properly places me as west-coast.

Interestingly, if I only answer the questions that I know I learned during high school, rather than ones that I picked up on my own at some point or other, then I only get 80% or 86% (there's one question that I don't know if I learned the answer in high school or not).

Language Savvy

You scored a 240 out of 400 on language knowledge.
Congratulations! You know your stuff! You've scored higher than most people would and you probably have taken a linguistics or cultural science class to boot. Most likely you are bilingual or even multilingual. You are also probably fascinated by languages and want to learn more of them in the future. When you travel to a foreign country, you make a point to learn some of the language instead of imposing your own. It's people like you who help promote the exchange of languages worldwide. Keep it up!

ETA: So, I retook the test and every time there was a question that I had been uncertain of before, I chose the other answer that I thought might be correct (or, if there were only two options, I simply chose the other). I got a 220, which tells me that reducing a multiple choice question to two out of four possible answers is really not as good a way to go as they claimed back when I took the SAT.
darcydodo: (sundial)
Well, duh. I have to say, I'm utterly delighted with some of the answer options, particularly "You're masturbating over a Sappho poem about myrtle" in answer to what embarrassing situation your scout finds you in. (Also, frighteningly, although I didn't do it because my CV was looking sparse, I certainly did do web design for OUG&Ssoc, and that's pretty much the only thing on my so-called CV.) Also, the quiz was so clealry written by a classicist.

I'm the Old Bod!

Old-fashioned even for Oxford, you're all about obscure ancient books and highly dubious thesis topics. Academic in the fusty and eccentric, rather than hard working, sense, Oxford is clearly the best place for you. Favourite word: "aporia". Least favourite: "relevant".

You scored as Kaylee, the Mechanic. Kaywinnet Lee Frye: tomboy and ace mechanic.
Besides being super-cute, you are also adorable, which makes you a double-threat.
I'll forgive you for choosing Simon over Jayne, but just this once.

Kaylee, the Mechanic

Jayne Cobb, resident bad-ass

Simon, the Doctor

Inara, the "Companion"

Captain Malcolm Reynolds

First Mate Zoe

Shepherd Book

Wash, the Pilot

ETA: I think I probably scored so high on Jayne because I clicked fairly high on "I have been known to lift weights on occasion" and clicked all the way on "I LOVE LESBIANS!!!" ;)

Heh heh. My battle-imp looks like Yoda's grandson. Or something. I think some of the other images are wicked cool, but there's still a certain je ne sais quoi....

Gee, as if I haven't got enough displacement already. Why is it that I can think of lots of amorphous but cool-seeming thoughts while I'm reading articles on a subject and wandering aimlessly around campus, and when I actually sit down to write out my ideas I just get a discouraging blank and am forced to find solace in completely irrelevant activities?

Must think about Callimachus, must think about Callimachus. And paeans. And... ugh...

They actually gave an answer option for one question as "Impossible"?? Huh. The meaning of true hackery is lost on them. But anyway, this came up because I took the following quiz, brought to my attention by [livejournal.com profile] girlwithjournal:

Oh the joys of it all.

The bad side of the moment: my ethernet port seems to have stopped working. Grr. (At least I don't rely on it, but it would be nice if my computer were fully functional!)

I think I've scored a lot lower on the purity test this time than last, which is odd, considering I think I've only done a couple more things. Not sure, though. The haxor handles are just highly amusing.
