I think I'm now qualified for McDonald's — I have Mad Grilling Skillz

I spent yesterday at Candlestick again, this time manning the grill. 1) I cooked several hundred hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken breasts each. (Well, only a little over one hundred chicken breasts.) 2) My arm fucking hurts, probably from tong action on the chicken breasts, but also possibly from general spatula action. 3) How is it that the three extra helpers that were assigned to us had such a hard time a) distinguishing between plain, blue-checked, and yellow-checked wrappings, and what sandwiches went in which, and b) keeping up with my spaced out bursts of productivity. Surely a poor grasp of the English language doesn't stop you from functioning physically or mentally in an English-speaking country. And why is it that native Spanish speakers with poor English seem never to know the very basic word for "bread"??? (Clarificationbelow.) 4) I watched a little bit of the game; it's exciting seeing us do well, but the rest of the game is highly boring. I really prefer baseball. 5) It took me two hours to finish my chicken sandwich. 6) I now know how Buffy felt after working at the Doublemeat Palace. 7) There was something actually interesting that happened, that I wanted to post about yesterday, I remember that there was; but I've completely forgotten. I did, however, get the cool title of "Grill Woman!" I want some non-grilling super-powers.

After I got back, I went over to Heaven and saw "Alias," which is evolving interestingly. I still prefer "Buffy," though. :) Brief Alias 3.4 spoilers )

So, the whole bread thing: my parents and I were once at a tapas place in Oxford, and my mom asked the waitress for some more bread, please. The waitress just looked at her blankly, and my mother ended up by yelling at her. Because the waitress didn't, in fact, it evolved, know what bread was. She worked in a restaurant, and didn't know the word. And the people yesterday kept saying "pan," and when I said, "You mean 'bread'?" (having at least a faint grasp on the parallels of romance languages), they just looked confused. Grr.

Ah, the irony

The lyrics I got for my Lyric Wheel fic were "The Wake of the Medusa" by The Pogues. Hence my plea of nearly a week ago about the mp3. The fic is due on Friday, and I finally managed to download a copy.... today. So what happens, as soon as it's done downloading? Another of the twelve versions I've had open in Kazaa for the entire week finally decides to download. At least I thought of a direction last night, but it's such an ambitious direction that I really could've used the full ten days to write the thing.

On a sprightlier note, I drabbled, twice.

Yay, one of my drabbles is now up at allaboutspike. So cool. (Angel 5.2 spoilers, if anyone's worrying about that.)
