A small note before I pop off to bed, to say that I think I'm falling in love with CSS. It's so very cool. Yes, I know I'm late jumping on the bandwagon. When I first encountered it, four or so years ago, I just so didn't understand.... *sniffle*

For anyone else who needs convincing, these pages may do it. If you're as sadly nerdy as I am. And I'll just say that I already thought it was reasonably cool by the time I found the aforementioned, but... ooh.

Yay CSS! Have you seen the Zen Garden?

Very nice, although IE isn't up to displaying some of them.

You know what's really cool as well? SSI...they kick butt, and do almost anything else. I'm just deciding whether the Pardes site will appreciate me rewriting the site with lots and lots of SSI, or whether they're too un-tech to appreciate it.

Two problems with SSI: Firstly that only certain servers will take them and that they need to be enabled (not that that should take very long). Secondly that they cause a much heavier load on the server computer than straight html as the server must parse each page before sending it. On the other hand this isn't where the normal bottle neck is for anything remotely modern.

Well, you saw the Pardes site - every single page is ridiculously heavy. It loses customers, and it takes simply ages and masses of budget to update. Methinks SSI has to be better than that!

Oh, and apparently they don't tile their background image, it's one huge graphic. How ridiculous...

Just been back and the thing locked up Mozilla for about a minute. My suggestion would be rm -f * and start again.

Actually the tech doesn't look too bad. The implementation OTOH is lousy.

You can use a mixture of CSS, SSI, and CGI, like the OUG&S web page. Yes, I know it's ugly, but it's fine *architecturally*.
