God, "the L word" has such an ability to break my heart. It's like depresso-show on some weird happy crack shit, so that you keep thinking how great it is while it's simultaneously tearing out your heart and stomping on it a few times, just to drive the point home. Something about watching people destroy their own lives... and everyone else's at the same time. Everyone's caught in a sucking downward spiral, and I just hope that by the end of the season things are a bit less traumatic.

In other news, I went to see the Marat/Sade tonight, which was absolutely fucking excellent. *pimps it like a mad pimping thing* I'm a little surprised I'd never seen the play before, since I've known of its existence since some time in high school, and I'm pretty sure that someone did a production of it while I was at Oxford. But I doubt that the Oxford production was as good as this one — Oxonian thesps are often too thespy for the good of the play, and that would be especially true of a play like this. Anand was clearly the best of the singers, but it's easy for him to stand out because he is so good. And the staging and the set were fantastic.

And on a completely random note, maybe some day I'll figure out what Craig and S are always giggling about behind closed doors. I've never thought sleeping with someone was that funny!

I first heard of the play my freshman year at Stanford, when a few people were writing final papers on it for a class I was in. I didn't actually see it until my senior year, when they performed it at Stanford. It was definitely quite entertaining. I'm not sure if someone's being a good singer is necessarily relevant to their performance in the show though, given the low quality voices implied for the inmates "performing" the whole show.
