A mixed bag
May. 14th, 2003 01:17 amA few musings on "End of Days," now.
My first, ridiculous, hope/thought is as regards weirdo!Giles as he has appeared in the last several episodes. The Guardian said that the shadow people Buffy encountered became the Watchers. Buffy made those shadow men pretty fucking pissed off. Mightn't this have somehow unconsciously influenced Giles? OK, I know I'm grasping at straws now in order to explain something that assuredly can't be explained and is simply bad writing, but... he really did only start acting strange after "Get It Done."
OK, let's see, other things. Angel.... it was obviously expected that he'd show up in Sunnydale, after the AtS finale, since he has to bring W&H's amulet to Buffy. (Although, as
girlwithjournal pointed out, it was Spike who was wearing the amulet in the trailer for next week!)
mciac groused lots that she was hoping Angel would be the First, but it's true that something doesn't seem quite right, regardless; and it's not just that I can't see how Buffy could go for puffy!Angel, having (I think?) not seen him for three years. Angel did seem slightly Angelus-like, although I'll grant I've not been watching AtS much and his character might have changed a bit. And the music was worse camp than the Xander/Cordy kissage music, which was intentionally cheesy and bad! There has got to be a reason for this, and given that Joss has complete control over "Chosen," hopefully things will go a bit better than they have recently. As for Caleb's apparent death,
sschmitt was sitting there muttering "chop off his head! chop off his head!" Since I don't think she's recently become the Red Queen, I'll put her down for a spot of prophecy.
There are probably other things that will come to me, but that's it for now.
In other news,
wolfemancs is currently telling me the disturbing things he's just watched contortionists doing on some TLC program. And he attempted to convey to me through charades that he has 1 final on Saturday. He was doing very well at this, except I got him so frustrated with my appalling guessing (partially intentional) that he eventually gave up and told me the answer. This prompted me to continue my giggling fit from earlier this evening. Oh, and he might come to the party on Saturday.

Date: 2003-05-14 07:15 am (UTC)I do not watch Buffy; my household has no TV, and I have seen just enough in passing to note that one of these years I wish to watch properly from the beginning.

Date: 2003-05-14 09:46 am (UTC)First, the last time Buffy and Angel saw each other was at the beginning of their respective 6th/3rd seasons. They met off screen, in a neutral location, after Buffy was brought back from the dead. Neither felt the meeting went well.
Second, Angel doesn't seem Angelus-y to me, he seems annoying Sunnydale Angel to me. He's all cool and slick - like he's trying to live up to Buffy's image of him. Go back to L.A., Angel - I actually like you there.

Date: 2003-05-14 11:09 am (UTC)Oh, is there an appalling Schwarzenegger movie? I tend not to pay attention to most films like that. :)

Yes, watching from the beginning is a very good plan. Things make a lot more sense, and it's a lot more difficult to get a real idea of the characters without doing so. I only started watching Buffy back in February, but I got lent the DVDs of the first 3 seasons in short order after that, and believe me it makes a difference. (Pity you're not still in the UK, you could obtain DVDs of the first five or so seasons.)

C'mon, he was never smarmy before! It's really all very very strange. Grr.

Date: 2003-05-15 08:04 am (UTC)There is. I don't normally either, but I do have an unregenerate interest in people doing Christianity-mythos things, as I have ambitions in that direction myself; the Schwarzenegger End of Days however does nothing worthwhile with it. And is a dreadful movie atop that. [ I do not mind weak movies in the field that have some originality, such as Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter or the Prophecy sequels ]
