Hurrah, downloaded OMWF* from Kazaa and it's only got a couple tiny little glitches. Of course, it's really a rather small screen, and if there's ever an opportunity to get a "real" copy I shall, but it's just cool to have. Sadly, using the printscreen key to take a screenshot of it works no better than attempting to do so from a DVD, so I guess I still need to try and find some sort of screencaps program.

Actually, lunch wasn't so bad. We didn't talk very much about P5 politics, and Shay introduced me to Naan 'n' Curry, which has the amazing blessing of FREE CHAI. And the food's good, too. I think I know my new lunch place of choice when I'm not at FSM with [livejournal.com profile] mciac. Sarah had apparently told Shay that [livejournal.com profile] leech and I had a seder at a pizza place (how precisely did she get this idea?). Maybe now I know why she never showed up! :)

On my way from lunch to my singing lesson, I discovered Friends of the Berkeley Public Library. This is a bookshop that sells books really really cheaply; some are discards from the library and some are donations, but the money they make goes to help the library. I spent $15... on 21 books. Including Tom's Midnight Garden, which I think Rachel might be interested to know. Also justified my spending spree to myself by picking up a copy of Gilbert & Gubar's "The Madwoman in the Attic," so that I can pretend like I actually spent the money on something even tangentially related to work. And the copy of "La Jalousie" will undoubtedly help me to improve my French, if I want to go around sounding like Robbe-Grillet. ;)

I also met [livejournal.com profile] girlwithjournal's Latin stalker. All in all? Productive day so far, if I'm not talking about work. Now I must try and find some connection between the Historia Apollonii regis Tyri and Chrétien de Troyes' Erec and Enide, and explicate it preferably by Monday. Not really a lot of hope there... but I'd rather find some real connection than talk 100% out of my ass. *sigh*

And it's raining....

Interesting information provided by Rachel on the origin of drabbling, pursuant to my posting of a drabble at the beginning of the week. I'll repaste it here, since I doubt many of you continue to trawl through the comments on my older posts.

"Well, I was asking [livejournal.com profile] darcydodo where the word drabble comes from. She didn't seem to know, so I went googling for it, and found the following suggested origin for the word drabble. I thought I'd share it, because it's one of those stories that is interesting regardless of whether it's true. Apologies to those of you so immersed in the fanfic world that you've known this from the cradle."

Makes me want to try some non-fanfic drabbles, since they do in fact seem to work outside of a larger context, which I had previously assumed would be awfully difficult.

Made a new icon, at [livejournal.com profile] spazatron's request; it's lyrics from Bush's "Glycerine."

Here it is )

I guess... check with [livejournal.com profile] spazatron if you want it. It's fine with me.
