I must say, I am absolutely amazed that BtVS ever got a spot on the air. I just saw the original pilot, and it's... well... I'm not sure that appalling is the right word, because a lot of the dialogue isn't so very different from that of "Welcome to the Hellmouth," and most of the main actors are the same. But it just... well, sucked, sort of. And it's really not that Alyson Hannigan wasn't playing Willow in it (although she is, of course, a better Willow by far than the girl who did play her, as well as a better actress), although this would obviously have helped matters somewhat. But basically, the pilot didn't seem to me to be much better than the original Buffy movie, and that's saying something. (But there was Giles. And I have to love Giles.) Everything just seemed so stilted. But I still have to love the "Crossroads" line. It's an in-joke that I actually get. And that just makes it all so worth it.
