Yesterday. Hmm.
Oct. 4th, 2003 04:08 pmFriends-locking this post, just because. It goes against my principles, but I am. Maybe I'll unlock it later. *dithers*
In the evening, I picked up
girlwithjournal and
dizzyditz, and we headed off to
sschmitt's art show. On the way to their house I heard that the Giants lost, which sucks; but since I don't follow baseball very consistently I'll wait until we actually get to the World Series before I decide whom I'm going to root for. On the way from their house to the show we stopped and picked up flowers.
I've never been to an art show before, let alone an opening night celebration sort of thing at one. There was lots of free food, and I had to wonder if they mightn't be slightly concerned about food getting dropped on bits of artwork, especially as there were some pieces (of art, not food) that were lying on the floor. But it was good free food, and so I concerned myself with eating, rather than with worrying. We got to meet
sschmitt's bachelor #1, and
sschmitt introduced me to her housemate Rahel. She seems perfectly nice, but there was lack of sparkage (in the five or so sentences we exchanged), and she also doesn't seem to be entirely my type. I'm just picky. And kind of heartsore, and not entirely sure if I want a relationship now, despite my conflicting attitude of yes-I-really-want-a-girlfriend. It's been just about exactly a year since I broke up with
livredor, and I'm still in this I-only-just-finished-a-relationship mode, which surely should be well on its way to completion. Doesn't feel like it, though. I'm just very weary and mildly soul-sick.
The show was very cool, though, and
sschmitt definitely had some of the best stuff there. Although there was a pair of photographs that I found incredibly cool: wicker cylinder, through which flowed a spill of eucalyptus leaves, photographed once from the north and once from the south, so that the shadows were basically opposite. So very neat. And a mobile (I guess), which had these dangling pendants made of very fine gold wire, which was twisted around itself in such a way that the pendants were like hollow tear-drops (with pointy bottoms. OK, globular icicles?).
dizzyditz and I agreed that it would be a fine thing to have to hang in one's house. Not, I think, that it would go with my décor, but still very beautiful and cupidity-inducing.
When we left, I dropped
dizzyditz off at home, and then
girlwithjournal and I went over to
taosterman's house and watched the last five episodes of Buffy season 2. So I met him (thus connecting up several Berkeley webs) and his housemates and
newberlinwall. I think
girlwithjournal and I might have scared them slightly with our knowledge of Buffy. Oh, and they were keeping track of Xander-references, which scores them major points of cool.
Today I had a P5 alto rehearsal, and when I biked home I met up with Sabrina, who was also biking home from the rehearsal, and it turns out that a) she lives about two houses away from where we were last night, and b) that she actually knows
taosterman and his housemates. So, amusement.
I don't think that singing "Timor et Tremor" and "Marsh Flowers" during rehearsal helped me to feel particularly bouncy and joyous. They're such cool songs for Halloween, though. They're such cool songs, period*!
Have e-mailed Ainsley to find out if she wants to hang out tonight, but no reply as of yet. Not really expecting it to happen, as I only e-mailed her this afternoon, and that's quite short notice. I don't even know if she can check e-mail at home.
* period = full stop, for you uncomprehending British lot.
ETA: unlocked this post now. Can't really remember why I locked it before, any more.
