My weekend, mostly
Sep. 2nd, 2003 01:39 amI'm strange, I know, but one thing I've been enjoying doing while I have Buffy DVDs in my possession is pausing them and reading the texts that are used in various exposition scenes. They turn out to be the strangest things. Recently,
girlwithjournal has lent me the first half of Season 4, and I've looked at texts in two episodes, "Fear Itself" and "Doomed." From these, we have the follwing. In "Fear Itself," there is a passage on Sorcery and Talismans (in which the Mark of Gachnar features, cutting off the text halfway down the second page), and a passage on exorcism (embedded in which is the drawing of Gachnar, in this case having the text actually wrap around it in appropriate fashion, although the figure number is out of place). In "Doomed," there is a very strange passage evidently describing demons, but not nearly the one that's being discussed, namely the Vahrall Demon; here the figure number is accurate for the passage (it's labeled as figure 109 and figure 109 is referenced in the text), but the drawing bears exactly zero resemblance to the monster being described. Then there's the Word of Valios, which is taking up space in a King James Bible. It's a talisman, fine, whatever, maybe it's an illustrated edition, but it's also cutting out a passage of text. It's in the book of Ezekiel, chapter 30, replacing all of verses 16-20 and part of verse 21.
Yeah, I think I'll go to sleep now. But I'll catch y'all up on my weekend first:
Saturday, I went with
girlwithjournal and
nenar to see American Wedding, which was actually quite funny. Then we did a Trader Joe's run, since we were in Emeryville anyway, and I discovered that you can't get cherries in jars out of season. I thought the point of putting them in jars was so that you could get them year round? That evening, the three of us and
dizzyditz watched Pet Sematary and Bladerunner (not the director's cut); I hadn't seen the first, since I don't watch horror films, and I was glad that I hadn't previously; I had seen Bladerunner, and it turns out that I've actually never seen the director's cut. So I should probably do this at some point.
Sunday, I got a phonecall from
leech asking if I wanted to be abused for my car; he,
grimhild, and
mrjonesandme were going clubbing in SF with friends of theirs and their ride had fallen through. So I got to go clubbing with them, which was a very strange experience, because I'd never gone clubbing before. There was one very cool room, with laser displays and fog and big TV screens showing trippy footage. The music was a bit repetitive and lacking in much melody, but it wasn't bad music, either. We then went and got doughnuts and I impressed people with my parallel parking skills. Prior to all this,
leech fed us yummy Chinese food.
Today,
psychopepsquad and I went to see Finding Nemo, which was indeed very good, both humor-wise and animation-wise. Some of it was fantastically beautiful. Then I came home and wrote
sunday100 drabbles, to be found here, here, and here.
