Fun.

Had a lovely time at Erica's tonight; the Christmas party felt like it was possibly verging somewhere in that nebulous area between standard college-y get-together and proper adult party, and I wondered how many more years it would take before we were all lounging on chairs and couches, rather than mostly sprawled across the floor. Especially since at least half the people there had real jobs and some were even married. We are the new generation of adults. This is scary.

Ate yummy pizza (I must remember about getting raw pizza dough from Trader Joe's, at least until I get a cuisinart and can make my own really easily) and soup and apple crisp and had wine and grape punch and hot cider. Played Taboo and Uno Stacko, which is a strange fusion of Uno and Jenga. And then there was the present exchange.

Just before I left, I wandered down Telegraph a little ways to the antique shops that are clustered just past Prince, and browsed for a present that was nice but cost less than $20. I found a fantastic glass paperweight, that I think was an owl. It was kind of weird. Anyway, after I bought it, I started fretting, because I liked it, and I wasn't sure I wanted to give it to someone I didn't know. I'm weird, OK? So anyway, I got back home and phoned my mom with my moral/ethical/whatever-it-was dilemma, and she told me that I was silly and hadn't changed a bit since I was little and wanted the presents I was giving people, and of course I should take it to the party. She also said she thought she knew what the present exchange was going to be, and she was in fact exactly right; it's this game where you either pick a new present from under the tree or steal one that's already been unwrapped, until everyone has a present. Anyway, in fact I liked everybody, and in the end Erica got the paperweight in any case, so all was good. I got four glass footed dessert cups and a variety of chocolate-y things. And a very dubious-looking plastic ice-cream scooper. I could have gotten DVDs of Memento and South Park, which was very tempting, particularly the latter. I initially opened a present that was a Starbucks card (gift certificate thing) and two cappuccino mugs and saucers, but that got stolen.

So much fun overall, and I listened to Tony Robinson reading Sourcery while I drove, and all was good. Erica's place is beautiful, especially the outside bit, which has long fountains and a real stream. It was already getting dark when I arrived, though, so I didn't get to see the area properly.
