So I finally managed to remember to register for classes on Telebears and discovered that I was faced with the dilemma of taking German at a morally pleasing time (namely 9am) or at a physically pleasing time (11am). You can guess which I chose, but I feel vaguely bad about it. But I hate 9am classes, so there wasn't really a major soul-search there.
Beethoven sucked tonight. We sang it with the orchestra for the first time, and we discovered that a) we've never done it nearly to tempo, b) we can't do it nearly to tempo, c) that we (at least the altos) basically suck, but for some reason Marika didn't notice this. I know exactly why she didn't notice: the orchestra was so fucking loud that we couldn't hear ourselves or each other, and probably Marika couldn't actually hear us either. Well, that's one possibility; the other is that Beethoven really does sound the same no matter what notes get sung. On the other hand, I probably shouldn't say that, because tonight really did go some way towards melting my glacial feelings towards the 9th symphony. The orchestra part (at least in the second movement) is gorgeous, so I think it's really just the melody that I don't care for. And there are some nice bits even in the vocal part, they just get lost to the audience. So I guess it's a piece that I can appreciate as a singer, if not as a listener. Still holding out for the opinion that a lot of Beethoven is crap, though. I think I should buy a copy of his oratorio; I really do like that.
Managed to get
leech so that he now looks disturbed at the mention of fish (if I dream about fish tonight, I'm sure it will be the fault of your sex-life,
leech... err, wait, no, I mean...) -- and no,
mciac and
girlwithjournal, I didn't tell him Frederick's "joke" in order to do this! Also discovered that he and I have the same vampire teeth, which is very amusing. Anan (OK, I really don't know how to spell his name) tried to use jugglers as an analogy for what I took to be a data port of sorts (I understand nothing about engineering), which was very cool, if confusing, and I understand the jugglers but still don't understand exactly how it can be extrapolated to apply to the switch he was describing. I think there's a reason I'm in humanities.
OK, sleepy now, and must still translate a bit of French article. Will this stop me from browsing through lj? Fat chance.

By the way, other friends of Darcy, I'm not a piscophile. Just so you know.

Muahahaha. Context is fairly absent, so don't worry, they'll just continue to think I'm very strange. A reasonable assessment, in any case.
Oh, I so don't want to have lunch with Shay tomorrow... *echoing grumble*

Date: 2003-05-02 01:09 am (UTC)Anyway, the reason for this comment is to inquire as to your graduation. Am I right in thinking that you will be coming back over here for it this summer? I kept meaning to email you and check, but I only remembered while away from the computer...
