Name: Darcy
Nickname: Dodo, sometimes, at home; my parents also call me Darce, but anyone else who tries that goes on my to-kill-very-shortly list.
Birthday: May 22, 1980
Birthplace: Los Angeles, CA
=Now=
Current mood: very tired
Current music: nothing.
Current taste: Diet coke.
Current hair: Very long dark brown braid down my back.
Current clothes: Jeans, fish/bicycle/thing t-shirt, sneakers, light blue fleece jacket.
Current annoyance: I have German homework. Lots of. It's late. I'm tired. I had to park two blocks away from my house because the world is filled with assholes.
Current thing I ought to be doing: German homework.
Current windows open: LJ, socrates (in PuTTY), EditPad.
Current desktop picture: 2 pictures of Willow, with pretty streaky electric blue background.

Current book: Uh, that'd be nothing. Lots of books I'm supposed to be reading, though.
Current cd in stereo: 5 CDs: set of Phillips recordings by Janet Baker.
Current crush: No one, really (apart from Willow, o' course). Mostly over the crush on A. There's always the soprano in AiR. :)
Current favorite celeb: Well, I'd have to say Alyson Hannigan, wouldn't I? Though I prefer her as Willow than as herself.
Current hate: Lack of sleep. Parking. Grr.
=Do You=
Smoke?: Nooo.
Do drugs?: Equal nooo.
Drink?: Yup.
Have a dream that keeps coming back?: I don't think so. Though I have in the past.
Remember your first love?: Of course.
Still love him/her?: No.
Read the newspaper?: Daily Cal, yes. Articles that lj friends post, thereby keeping me informed with the world at large? Sometimes. Other papers, no.
Have any gay or lesbian friends?: Yes, of course, but never enough.
Believe in miracles?: Sure. And pure luck, too, which kind of is similar, I suppose.
Believe it's possible to remain faithful forever?: Figure so.
Consider yourself tolerant of others?: I do try. I find that immaturity grates on me more and more these days, though. And there are people I don't bother with, too.
Consider love a mistake?: No.
Like the taste of alcohol?: Sure, though it depends on what. I hate gin, I hate ouzo, I hate chartreuse.
Have a favorite candy?: Something sour.
Believe in astrology?: No.
Believe in magic?: I wish I did.
Believe in god?: No.
Go to or plan to go to college: Well, here I am, have been, etc.
Have any piercings?: Nada.
Have any tattoos?: Nope.
Hate yourself: Only when I'm being a complete and utter fuckwit about something.
Have an obsession?: Reading, computers, etc, etc.
Have a secret crush?: I suppose kind of.
Do they know yet?: No.
Have a best friend?: A few of them.
Wish on stars?: I have in the past. I rarely see the evening star these days, though. And never shooting stars; I'm unlucky. Or don't spend enough time outdoors.
Care about looks?: To a limited degree. Not so's you'd notice, I figure. :)
=Love life=
First crush: Erm. Alex Baskin, I think, in 2nd grade.
First kiss: Really, Scott Shulman, at camp, summer after 5th grade. But Matt Wrather kissed me on the ear in first grade, behind the paper cutout people with their inner anatomies drawn on them. And my first french kiss wasn't until the summer after 6th grade, with Ethan, whose surname I forgot years ago.
Single or attached?: Single, sadly. Anyone care to rectify that?
Ever been in love?: Yes.
Do you believe in love at first sight?: Sometimes. I believe in love at second sight, I'd say.
Do you believe in "the one?": Sometimes I think I have to. But that could get highly depressing.
Describe your ideal significant other: Well, here's what I put on Orkut: "Beautiful, musical, good backrubs, not very short hair, romantic, good in bed. Weird but mentally stable. Someone I feel easy talking to but who fills some silences on her own."
=Juicy stuff=
Have you ever played a game that required removal of clothing?: Yes.
Have you ever been intoxicated?: Yes.
Favorite place to be kissed?: Mouth, definitely.
Have you ever been caught "doing something?": Kind of, I think. *ponders*
Are you a tease?: I don't think so.
Shy to make the first move?: Very. Very, very, very. Watch me not do anything, ever.

=Last Thing You=
Bought: Officially, I suppose, groceries last night. I paid for parking today, and I didn't buy crookneck squash only because Ari bought it to pay me back for something.
Ate & Drank: Currently drinking diet coke. Ate trout and squash and mushrooms and green beans and potato at dinner.
Read: Besides lj? Program notes for the concert I went to this afternoon.
Watched on tv: Umm. I guess that was Alias, last Sunday.
=Either/Or=
club or houseparty: Houseparty, definitely.
beer or cider: Very much depends on what beer and what cider. In the States, I'm going to say beer, 'cause it's very hard to find a good cider out here, whereas there are lots of good beers that are easily available.
drinks or shots: Drinks.
cats or dogs: Dogs. Big ones.
single or taken: Single. Why, oh why?
pen or pencil: Hmm. Pencil for many things (drawing, crosswords, tests); I prefer to take notes in pen, but then I have a harder time doodling. Fountain pens are good.
gloves or mittens: Gloves; mittens are too clumsy.
food or candy: Food.
cassette or cd: In the car, cassettes, 'cause I haven't got a CD player. Otherwise, CDs, because the sound quality's better and they wear out less.
coke or pepsi: Diet either.
this or that: This.
=Who Do You=
want to kill: Depends on the day. Right now, whoever took all the parking near the house.
get really wasted with: No one. In the past, there were various answers to that: G&S people, choir people... these days, I have to drive.
look like: No one. Me.
want to look like: Someone with a really nice body. The people that I'd specifically want to look like are also the people that I quite fancy (one drawback of being gay!), so that's a bit too resultingly narcissistic to contemplate.
want to be like: Me, by and large.
avoid: Lurke and ahem.
=Last Person You=
talked to: I said hi to Sheryl when she came out of Craig's room briefly. Before that,
hugged:
instant messaged: You expect me to remember that far back? Oh, it must've been Caitlin.
kissed: Apart from my parents, last time I saw them... possibly
=Where Do You=
eat: Anywhere in the house, especially my bed or the couch; the Pulp Bee Hat Exchange; restaurants....
cry: Nowhere, if I can help it. Other than that, anywhere.
=Have You Ever=
Dated one of your best friends? I guess so, but I don't see it that way. We became closer friends after we got together.
Loved somebody so much it makes you cry? Suppose so.
Drank alcohol? Well, duh.
Done drugs? No.
Broken the law? Would speeding count? Would downloading mp3s count?
Run away from home? Sadly, no. I was such a placid child.
Broken a bone? Amazingly, no. *knock on wood*
Played Truth Or Dare? I actually don't think so. I might have been in on a couple abortive games.
Kissed someone you didn't know? Kind of.
Been in a fight? Again, kind of. A 6th grade, foot-stomping-on sort of fight.
Come close to dying? Not that I know of! Though I was in not such a good condition when I was born. But I don't think I was close to dying, just sick.
=What Is=
The most embarrassing CD in your collection?: Embarrassing? Uhh... given that I own it, I probably don't think it's embarrassing. There are CDs that I have somewhat embarrassing associations with, though, such as the soundtrack to "The Piano," or my Indigo Girls CD.
Your bedroom like?: Lots of books on bookshelves, stereo, a few pre-Raphaelite (specifically Waterhouse) posters,
Your favorite thing for breakfast? I don't eat breakfast, by and large. When I do -- oatmeal with brown sugar, butter, and milk, I guess. Or muesli with yoghurt and fresh red currants and milk. Somewhat less easy to get the ingredients for. :)
Your favorite restaurant?: Haven't got one. There are a bunch that I like a lot, though, here (in Berkeley) and elsewhere. For simplicity's sake, I'll say Shen Hua. It's certainly the one that I recommend to people most often.
=Random Questions=
What's on your bedside table?: An empty glass. A box of matches. Two candles, on blue frosted glass coasters. A bracelet that Anne made me. An empty can of diet coke. Deodorant. Sunglasses. A coaster for Foster's that says "No Sharking." A coaster from an Alsace brewery. A scrunched up piece of red foil from a Hershey's kiss. Eye drops. A flashlight. A packet of tissues from Virgin Atlantic. A pile of coins (American). Some toothpicks. Old wart medicine.
What do you eat when you raid the fridge late at night?: I can reliably expect to find, and therefore consume, diet coke. Sometimes string cheese, if I have any. Sometimes I'll make a quesadilla if we have shredded cheese and tortillas.
What is your secret guaranteed weeping movie?: Well, "Love, Actually" seems to have been doing the trick. But I'm sure there are other things, too.
What is your biggest fear?: Probably rape, or having a car accident. Nothing that's more close at hand.
What feature are you most insecure about?: I don't know. I am insecure sometimes, but I don't think it's about a particular feature.
Do you ever have to beg?: What for? I suppose I beg my parents for things, now and again.
Are you a pyromaniac?: No, though I love the smell of matches, and I love watching things burn. I just don't go around lighting fires in order to indulge these two pleasures.
Do you have too many love interests?: No.
Do you know anyone famous?: There were lots of famous people who had kids at my school, and now some of the kids who were in my class are famous, themselves. Zooey Deschanel, Jason Ritter.... Jared Diamond is my mom's colleague, but I haven't seen him since I was quite young, and I wouldn't say that I know him.
Describe your bed: Wooden frame, foam mattress. There are drawers that fit under the bed. The sheets and comforter cover change, but I always have on top of them a silk patchwork quilt that my aunt made me, and a large piece of cloth woven by some tribe in Africa which a friend of ours gave me when I went away to college. A bunch of stuffed animals.
Spontaneous or plain?: Sorry? Maybe it means "spontaneous or plan," which would make a bit more sense. In which case, I prefer to plan, at least if I'm doing things with other people. It saves headaches, often. But I do enjoy spontaneity.
Do you know how to play poker?: No. I've been taught on several occasions, and the answer is still no. Craig and Anna would both love it if I learned, I think.
What do you carry with you at all times?: Keys. Other things I'm more liable to leave here or there, upon occasion. But I also try to keep my driver's license and debit card with me.
How do you drive?: As fast as I think I can get away with. And well.
What do you miss most about being little?: People to take care of me. Not having to worry about making decisions or being responsible. Life was so carefree and simple when I little, and while that's a cliché, it's only because it's so true.
Are you happy with your given name?: Sure. Even if it did lead to nicknames such as "Dorky Darcy." And even if it does result in my getting various things addressed to me as a Mr.
How much money would it take to get you to give up the Internet for one year?: A shitload.
What color is your bedroom?: (Off-)white walls. Wood floor. Lots of colors from the stuff that's in my bedroom.
What was the last song you were listening to?: "Here comes the Thnikkaman!" Well, OK, there was stuff on the radio, too. But that was the last song I intentionally listened to.
Have you ever been in a play?: Often.
Who are your best friends?: Here,
Do you talk a lot?: In spurts.
Do you like yourself and believe in yourself?: I try to. Sometimes I think I'm a complete fool and idiot, and then I like myself less.
Do you think you're cute?: No. Wouldn't mind being, though.
Do poor, homeless, or starving people sometimes annoy you? Yes. Like when they shout obscenities at me as I walk past them.
Do you consider yourself to be a nice person?: I do try. ;)
What is the first thing you think when you see two gay guys or lesbians holding hands?: Yay! Aww!

Date: 2004-02-23 07:23 am (UTC)You'd never have survived school in Australia (or perhaps, no one else would have...). Autralians must shorten all names as a sign of affection. :)
Hence, I was "Sar" (to rhyme with bear, only say it with my accent ;).

Oooh, ooh, is that from the Wychwood End-of-term Dinner Of Doom, where we had about 15 people trying to explain what it meant to Lucinda, and Medium Dave got all horribly offended because someone used him as an example?
