Well, I'm leaving Sunday morning, I'm busy Friday evening, and I'm busy Saturday afternoon. I'm only busy Saturday evening if I can't see "Dogville" on Friday during the day, however. So... yes, I'd like to, but I'm not positive I can. E-mail (hah!) me info.

You beat me to posting this Onion piece (you know, time zone issues), but anyway...

Jed is a totally righteous dude, and he still lives in Berkeley (he works for ILM). He does occasionally still show up for Classicsy things (he came to the APA in January, for instance). Ask the (increasingly few) old people in the department to point him out to you, if he comes to something. Failing that, if I'm ever back in Berkeley, I'll try to arrange a social function to which I can invite the two of you. OK?

Jed story:
One summer - a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, before The Phantom Menace was let loose upon the world, my former housemate Bridget (the Kiwi) and Jed were the only two student trench supervisors at Nemea. Now, as you may have heard, some people can have problems at that site, given the character of the local Tyrant. So in order to stay sane, Jed and Bridget decided to communicate only using dialogue from one of the "Star Wars" movies. One can only imagine what the Steve Miller Band made of that...

Is it sad that I just want to correct those final sigmas? My eyes kept focusing there, so that I could hardly read the story.

Actually, I was cringing a bit about that too. But the font in the images was so small that I just didn't look at them when I wasn't actually reading the Greek. :)

it is funny but makes me feel like a complete and utter nerd for wanting to fix those end-sigmas (whatever you call them in english) - because they hurt me! :)

You know, it's entirely possible that the Onion did that just to mess with those in the know - they do that kind of thing sometimes. ^_^

That would amuse me greatly. Though I'm not quite sure I give them that much credit, as I think they were probably just using Symbol. :)

one would think that they'd know enough symbol to understand that you get the end-sigma by pressing shift+V (in most settings, anyway). maybe that is just my hopeful font-fanatic self, though. :)

Well, I know that. But then again, I also don't use Symbol, because I know just how bad and evil it is. Maybe it's a whole big meta-joke.
