How interesting
May. 13th, 2003 12:50 amI just watched the AtS season 1 episode "She," and
girlwithjournal is wrong about it. There are, in fact, two parts very worth watching. Yes, of course the dancing is one, Angel is absolutely hilarious, as is Wesley. But the other is Angel's description of the Manet painting. And then the very interesting idea that Baudelaire and Angel might have had a fling; one can see the possibilities of Angel sleeping with and torturing Baudelaire in such a fashion that Le Vampire was produced:
Toi qui, comme un coup de couteau,
Dans mon coeur plantif es entrée;
Toi qui, forte comme un troupeau
De démons, vins, folle et parée,
De mon esprit humilié
Faire ton lit et ton domaine;
— Infâme à qui je suis lié
Comme le forçat à la chaîne,
Comme au jeu le joueur têtu,
Comme à la bouteille l'ivrogne,
Comme aux vermines la charogne,
— Maudite, maudite sois-tu!
J'ai prié le glaive rapide
De conquérir ma liberté
Et j'ai dit au poison perfide
De secourir ma lâcheté.
Hélas! le poison et le glaive
M'ont pris en dédain et m'ont dit:
«Tu n'es pas digne qu'on t'enlève
A ton esclavage maudit,
Imbécile! — de son empire
Si nos efforts te délivraient,
Tes baisers ressusciteraient
Le cadavre de ton vampire!»
"Oh, and Baudelaire was actually a little taller and a lot drunker than he's depicted here." -Angel, "She"

a) têtu is, of course, the word I failed to remember yesterday. I'm glad it turned up, or I'd have been worrying about it.
b) People have been finding vampires sexy since long before Buffy was invented. Hence the Angel / Baudelaire thing is somewhat silly. But hey.

Well, err... no duh. The point is that the slight smirk on Angel's face implies that it was he. Blatantly I know that in real life it wasn't, 'cause obviously BtVS and AtS are fiction....

obviously BtVS and AtS are fiction
Yes, I've been trying to point that out to you for some time now. But my point wasn't, hey, Angel wasn't really involved with Baudelaire, because I agree that would be no duh. My point was that the justification for slashing them on the grounds of that flimsy textual evidence was kinda strained.

Ooh, isn't it using 'slash' in an appropriate grammatical context! :) Anyway, the way Angel's speech plays out, it's fairly clear that he was referring to himself. IMO.

I'm ignoring your second comment because you're just being pointlessly sarcastic.
I so was not. The sarky bit was only to tease you about the appropriate use of 'slash'. The Angel comment was perfectly serious. So nuh.
