I don't list extremely common interests because doing so would provide no information to anyone who happened upon my user info. ("Wow, you also like reading books and listening to music? We have so much in common!")

I've been perusing your journal on and off for a while (thanks,inter alia, to c_iulius) and I'm beginning to feel like a stalker, so I thought I'd better introduce myself.

So, I'm Vicki. Brit living in NY. We have a number of interests in common, and I enjoy your writing, so I'm hoping that you'll be amenable to mutual 'friending' :-)

Hmm. It's difficult to recall my friending patterns...I think I came across shreena's journal through reading the friendslist of another Oxford person. I have never met her in person, so yes, just an lj-acquaintance. I think I would like to meet her, though!

Interestingly enough, most of my lj "friends" are people I have never met in real life. In fact, there are only 2 "real" people on my list, one of whom introduced me to lj. I have subsequently met one of my lj friends in person, and in fact she is coming to stay next week for a few days.

I guess I'm a natural voyeur (although I prefer the term "people watcher"!) and I enjoy reading about people's lives, particularly people with whom I have common experiences/interests. I tend to be a bit of an lj snob, insofar as I generally seek out eloquent writing and interesting insights (although there are a couple of people on my list who are there for comedy/drama value!).
