Aug. 21st, 2003 06:18 pmToday was wine-tasting. We went to Sonoma, not Napa, on the grounds that it was cheaper and at least somewhat less pretentious. Also, I'd been to Napa before (with
livredor. We got there fine, which both surprised and pleased me. The first winery was Buena Vista, which is the oldest winery in California and hence a historical landmark. They were very nice and gave us the glass we tasted from, which most places down in the Central Coast had done, but no one in Napa had. Then we drove through Sonoma itself, and stopped at the cheese factory, but they sadly weren't making any cheese just then. Next we went to Valley of the Moon Winery, on account of the name, and the name of the road it was on (namely, Madrone, which is a tree that I adore). They had lovely wines, and it turned out that they're the second oldest winery around. We went to several more wineries too, and bought about six bottles all together, which is probably more wine than I've ever bought at once. (No one else gave us the glass, but several of the tastings were free, so I shan't complain.)
On the way back, somehow I managed to miss the turns we were meant to take (I'm convinced they weren't marked), and hence I was afraid we'd have to spend a good couple hours going down to the Golden Gate Bridge and through San Francisco. But in fact we were able to take the Richmond Bridge, so that was fine, and we spent not much more time doing that than we would have done the other direction. Plus we got to go across the Bay, which is always a good thing.
So yeah. Good day. Tonight we're going to Zachary's for pizza, since we already had pizza at the Cheese Board and this is the other type of pizza we've got around here. Most the good pizza places are too similar to the Cheese Board to consider them a separate sort of cuisine.
