The UCCE Halloween Show
Oct. 25th, 2003 02:41 amSo the concert went fairly well. Hopefully people will have their pictures developed/uploaded soon, 'cause I think I looked pretty damn good as a goth. At least other people said so. I, of course, felt vaguely self-conscious.
Walking to the bus, and then waiting for it and riding on it, I kept thinking that anyone who saw me was going to assume I really was a goth, except for that I didn't, at that point, have any goth makeup. That was a kind of weird thought.
Mark didn't recognize me at first, very briefly, when I came in to Chavez, but he claimed he was having trouble recognizing everyone. In general, people in P5 looked so hot as goths. We rule. So the prettiest, go us.
In the first concert, "Timor" was a little shaky; our pitch was solid, but everything was too tentative. Then "Marsh Flowers" was good, but we went flat, which made the low notes impossible. Finally "All Souls Night"; I refused to stand in the middle for my solo, 'cause I didn't want to be the center of attention; I still think, even now, that the song is a unit, not background plus solo, despite that possibly not technically being the case. However, my other reason for not standing in middle ended up being unjustified; I didn't actually forget any words and need to blend, chameleon-like, into the arc of bodies. But it was nice to be able to semi-hide even so. In any case, I got a severe talking to from most the rest of the group, who were all, "You need to stand in the middle. You must stand in the middle. Stand out. Be noticed." And I was just like, "can I please go hide, now?" It's not that I don't like singing solos; I have no clue what the problem was. It's not even stage fright. Really, I think it was a not-prepared-enough sort of syndrome. *shrug* But people really loved the song, which was due in no small part to
leech's awesome arrangement.
After we were done, since our tickets were for the second concert, most of us went over to Smart Alecs. I just had a very large diet coke, 'cause I didn't want to eat before having to sing again, but most people had dinner. Between myself, Anand, and
leech, we managed to out me to at least a couple more people in choir. It depends how with it some people are, or rather, aren't.
For the second concert, we got to watch most of the groups. Sadly, I didn't get to see CJC either time, and I've really not seen them perform this year. It was very sad. And I had to watch Overtones from the wings, and they're the other group that I've really not watched much. Women's Chorale was rocking it, and they had a cool tap-dancing thing going on, too. Men's Chorale was pretty good, and I loved their Pacman theme. "Kiss from a Rose" was not quite so hot, though the soloist was very good; first, I think I much prefer the non-soloist choir arrangement, and second, I think some of the girls in the group weren't so well in key. But it was still decent. Noteworthy was fucking hilarious, with their costumes and their choreography/acting and their songs. AiR didn't do anything that I haven't heard them do several times already; one of their women really needs to be miked, which is strange, 'cause last year I thought she had a pretty loud voice.
This second time around, "Timor" was really good, "Marsh Flowers" was fairly identical with the time before (including the going flat), and I grudgingly agreed to stand forward for the solo and also didn't screw up at all, not even a repeat of the one mistake I'd made the first time round. I could do it again now much better, though, confident that I know what I'm doing and where I'm going. So it's just as well that we're singing it on Sunday! :)
Got various compliments on solo and attire, many more in the former category.
After we cleaned up, we waited around Chavez for about an hour until
jour_pluvieux came and returned Kristen's keys, which she'd wandered off with, and then we went to Fenton's. I got a rootbeer float and a philly cheesesteak; I'm still convinced that rootbeer floats should automatically come with an extra cup of rootbeer.
I'm falling asleep now, so I'm going to go to sleep. But that was, in short terms, the concert. Maybe photos later will trigger my memory.
