The prompt delivery service of the City of Berkeley has again prevented Craig and myself from suffering the terrible fate of Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout (who would not take the garbage out), by providing us with yet another garbage can to replace the one that was stolen this time. Tomorrow (or some time soon; I'll need to get home before it's dark), I'm taking paint to that garbage can, and blazoning it with our address. I don't care if I'm defacing city property by doing so.

In less prompt news, the roof guy was supposed to come today and leave his card to signal that he'd been here. As there was no card, I can only assume that he didn't come. Unless he left the card up on the garage roof. Which would really be very silly on all counts.

On the more classical front of things, there are interesting developments with our friend Flavius Neilos. Why did people not record provenance in days of yore? Grr.

Cassie was on CSI: Miami. That was just strange. I kept wondering why she didn't have dyed streaks in her hair, and I wondered why she didn't foresee any of the bad things that were happening to her. I still like the original CSI much, much better. But it doesn't have Cassie. ;)

I'm currently accessing livejournal from a library computer, and I discovered that other people had also previously used this computer for lj. So I decided I'd go look at their blogs, given that they would theoretically be Berkeley students. One of them, it turned out, wasn't a Berkeley student at all, but was, rather, [livejournal.com profile] hacesol, a friend of [livejournal.com profile] easwaran.... Small world. :)

I was wandering southward pondering lunch places, when I ran into [livejournal.com profile] leech. So we went to Thai House, because it's good and because we could get free Thai iced teas there with my pirate card. Only, it turned out we couldn't, because by "entree" they mean "dinner entree." This sucks. The food was excellent, though, especially the Pad Thai, so that's OK. And I got to hear [livejournal.com profile] leech say how much he likes coconut milk, several times. ;)

Now I'm sleepy and waiting for Todd to get back to his office so I can scan a plate from GLH. And I don't like cramps. But Massachusetts is a wonderful state, long live Massachusetts. (OK, I also need to learn to spell, evidently.)

Not that it'll do much good, probably, but on the optimistic front, there's a petition to keep BART running until 3am. Sign it. You never know, it could have some effect:

I wanted to make cookies. I was lazy. I didn't want to look up a recipe. So I made up my own. Since the cookies seem pretty damn tasty, I'll share.

Darcy's Improv Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Preheat oven to 350 or 400 degrees (I'm not sure yet which is going to be best).

1 stick softened unsalted butter
½ c white sugar
½ c brown sugar
2 eggs
1 c flour
1 c oats
1 c raisins

Cream butter and sugars together. Add eggs. Add flour. Add oats & raisins. Spoon onto greased baking sheet. Cook for 15 or 20 minutes, or until they look done.

For the future, I may up the amount of oats, and I'd certainly be happy with cranberries instead of raisins, but I always love cranberries. Possibly a pinch of salt, or just normal butter. I think if I doubled the flour, added some vanilla, and put in chocolate chips instead of oats and raisins, they'd make decent chocolate chips cookies. But I haven't tested that yet.
