So, my main triumph in French today was remembering, off the top of my head, the words chômeur and sans-abri. (I was trying to explain about the food-packing at the Santa Monica airport hanger at Christmastime.) This may say something about the level which my French is at, that I can't have any bigger triumph than that....

By contrast, the highlight of my day was getting home to the Fondation des Etats-Unis to discover posters on all the doors proclaiming a free BBQ for all residents tonight at 8pm. I'll be stupidly hungry by then, but who cares, because FREE and because BARBEQUE. I was, in fact, just thinking either today or yesterday that I haven't been to a proper BBQ in far too long. (This is not counting the ones hosted by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] mciac, of course; there's a difference, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I think possibly it's that somehow barbeque and balcony are not words that coexist peaceably side-by-side in my head.)

The only down is my lurking headache, which seems to be lurking at the fringes without quite ever showing itself fully. And it doesn't seem to be the sort that would be conquered properly by midren anyway.

I have just discovered that I have a friend near you! My friend Chris from school (who is at Trinity, currently on year abroad) is also at the Cite Universitaire. The College Franco-Britannique, apparently. So that's very random, but amusing. Perhaps you will meet him!

He only has another week in France now. It's possible you may have met in passing, but only briefly.

Apparently, he says, the Matrix is out already. 16th May not June. He saw it a couple of weeks back.
