Language Savvy

You scored a 240 out of 400 on language knowledge.
Congratulations! You know your stuff! You've scored higher than most people would and you probably have taken a linguistics or cultural science class to boot. Most likely you are bilingual or even multilingual. You are also probably fascinated by languages and want to learn more of them in the future. When you travel to a foreign country, you make a point to learn some of the language instead of imposing your own. It's people like you who help promote the exchange of languages worldwide. Keep it up!

My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:
free online datingfree online dating
You scored higher than 99% on knowledge

ETA: So, I retook the test and every time there was a question that I had been uncertain of before, I chose the other answer that I thought might be correct (or, if there were only two options, I simply chose the other). I got a 220, which tells me that reducing a multiple choice question to two out of four possible answers is really not as good a way to go as they claimed back when I took the SAT.

"380 - Beyond Human" (with some educated guesses in a couple of spots but no external reference)

...though i probably oughtn't brag given that this is in large part a comment on how much time i waste surfing ethnologue and relevant chunks of wikipedia when i should be doing something else

or rather:

Beyond Human

You scored a 380 out of 400 on language knowledge.

HOLY COW! You've completely dominated this test!! Your score means that
you must have at least gotten one bonus question correct. How someone
could ever score this high on a test this hard is beyond a simple
mortal like myself. You either cheated on most of the questions, and
should be ashamed of yourself, or you have probably studied languages
all your life, speak more than 5, and have written several books in
each one. There is not a thing about Anthropological Linguistics you do
not know... in fact, you probably wrote the book yourself.

This test tracked 1 variable. How the score compared to the other people's:
Higher than 98% on knowledge

(took this in february btw, hence the percentile inconsistency presumably)

I got 330. A few of the questions really had nothing to do with languages - "which country has the most Spanish speakers" was just about whether Mexico, Columbia, Argentina, or Spain has more people. "is Spanish an official language of the Philippines" was about polities. "what is the European language spoken by the first confirmed visitors to the new world" is about whether Columbus or Eiriksson is considered the first confirmed European visitor. In general it was pretty interesting.

That was hard. Where do we find the answers? (270 for me)

anything in particular you're curious about? i don't recall any questions in there that would take any significant effort to pull up on google (or i'll volunteer to play answer key =P)

Way too hard

I only got 230. I think this survey concentrated too much on obscure languages like Portuguese and not enough on important ones like Morse, Braille, semaphore, and binary.

350. That was a stinker. Thank heavens for having edited rather a lot of language, linguistics and anthropology questions...

I got same as you, Darcy! Probably thanks to that clutch of Celtic-related questions.

280! Considering I can't actually speak any other language vaguely fluently I'm pretty happy with myself...

210. I dunno if that's good or bad for a non-humanities major... (Even with that score, it said I was higher than 99% on knowledge...)

I got 210, too. I think it's a more than respectable score for us non-humanities majors. The top 1% is good enough for me!

I'm surprised that I scored as high as I did (270). And truly impressed with how well you and your friends in general did on this (especially those folks that left me in the dust). Dude. :)

But you're the one who actually knows languages! As the line in my .sig puts it, "Succurrite! Dedici Latinum meum!"

Another 270. My geolinguistics isn't so strong. If they'd asked stuff like whether Navajo was an agglutinating language, I would have done better.
