I finally watched the season 3 premiere of BSG, just in time to not see tonight's new episode, because I don't know anyone in Berkeley who watches it. Well, [livejournal.com profile] wageslave and David watch it, but [livejournal.com profile] wageslave was going over to Elias' to watch it, and Elias gets it an hour earlier than anywhere else on the west coast, unfortunately. So I'm relegated to waiting until it's available online. *is impatient*

While I wait for some kind soul who maybe watched it three hours ago on the east coast to upload it to the internets the bittorrent to download Friday the 13th to be over so that maybe I'll actually have some success at obtaining a copy of the frakking episode, I shall ponder the premiere, which [livejournal.com profile] americanbeetles and I watched projected onto a large screen in all its awesomeness. Oh yes, it was lovely to behold. :)

I can't watch fat!Lee. Oh my god, it's too disturbing. But it also is so appropriate for his character, which was going all mopey at the end of last season.

The viper pilots have clearly gone to seed without Kara. Kat just isn't cut out to be CAG, not yet, not when she was barely out of being a nugget herself.

Kasey (Casey?) confuses me, given her apparent age. I mean, that kid, apart from not talking, looks like she's maybe three or so. Now, Kasey, assuming she's really Kara's child, was conceived after Hera, because Boomer was already pregnant when she and Helo encountered Kara back on Caprica, and it wasn't until after that that Kara got taken to the farm. And Kasey wasn't created until even after that. Hera was born way premature, and that was not long before they found New Caprica. We'll call it a couple of months to be really generous. Well, they've only been on New Caprica for a year and four months. Four months ago, Hera still looked very much a baby, and couldn't have gotten nearly as old-looking as Kasey in the intervening time. So what the fuck? I don't think I'm saying that I think Kasey isn't Kara's kid, because we know they took her ovaries, and Leoben never exactly lies, he just twists the truth. But something's wrong. I hope it's not just a discrepancy.

The Six/Baltar interaction helped convince me of something. Phantom!Six makes Baltar more cylon, and Phantom!Baltar makes Six more human. Interestingly, the phantoms don't show up when their real counterpart is present. But real!Caprica!Six was in the process of keeping Baltar from signing (as well as from being killed), while phantom!Six, while still keeping Baltar from being killed, forced him to sign. Admittedly, without being corporeal she really had no other choice, but I think there is a definite crossing of boundaries that is urged by each phantom counterpart.

I don't suppose anyone miraculously has an invite to demonoid, which just successfully failed to work for me three times in a row so that now I can't use it?

ETA: And indeed, now that it is no longer Friday the 13th, there are suddenly and miraculously other sources for downloading!

You and [livejournal.com profile] anitaconchita keep mentioning this alleged BSG. I recorded tonight's episode onto my PC. I suppose now I'll have to rent seasons 1 and 2 to figure out what is going on. :)

If you just want to catch up, Sci-fi has put a couple free summary clip-shows on iTunes that were created for that very purpose.

But cramming down the first couple seasons from DVD would probably be more fun. There were a few bits that felt travelog-through-Mordor'esque to me that could benifit from a FF button...

Alas, I have no cable, and i fear bittorrent/itunes is the only hope for me. except my officemate who has cable and is obsessed by the show...

What I thought was funny was the parallels to the Iraq war.

Tye and the insurgants clearly parallel the Iraq insurgents. I thought that was an interesting take on the Iraq war--put our protagonist with the insurgents.

And then we have Caprica6 and Boomer acting as the well-intentioned occupying force (as most Americans probably think of ourselves in Iraq).

Leoben never exactly lies
Didn't Leoben say Adama is a cylon (right before going out the airlock?)? Now, if he does not lie, it would give the writers a mighty easy wrap up to the "They have a plan," and also explain why the cylon assassain shot him in the gut rather than a bit higher.

And what really threw me for a loop is hearing the actor who plays Lee in the behind the scenes recap of season one (free at iTunes) - he has a pretty heavy British accent in real life. I never noticed that he is faking an American accent when in charactor.

Yeah, we've watched the 1st 2 eps with some friends and we are all super bothered by Fatadama, or F'adama, as we've taken to calling him. ;) That and I hate Helo's new "haircut".

Lee's accent is pretty attractive, in my opinion, but still disconcerting. Glad you got the season premiere.

Helo's hair is completely awesome and delicious, and I will defend it unto my last breath. Although one could argue that many years of Bob Dylan overexposure would lower anybody's standards of hairstyle appreciation. *cough*

Also, "F'adama" for some reason reminds me a lot of Fedallah. God, it would be so great if they actually had Melville allusions.

We have season three BSG on replay! We don't watch it live, but you're totally welcome to come join us.

I don't know... We just finished season two last night and then caught up on the two episodes we had on replay. Real time watching behaviors are therefore unknown and highly negotiable.
