I was reading Dorothy Sayers' Who's Body? last night, and I discovered that our dear Lord Peter is a G&S fan! And a hack, to boot. (Well, OK, he might only be a hack, but it's hard to imagine hacking something you dislike.) "Now, Dr. Thingumtight, I ask you again, can you solemnly swear, without the least shadow of doubt,—probable, possible shadow of doubt—..."
