BSG season 3 finale, what else?

Umm, last week and this week, did they cut out the credit sequence with the lovely droning and the there-are-THIS-MANY-humans-left? Or am I just insane?
We all knew Kara wasn't dead, and it seemed likely that she'd come back for the end of the season finale, so that wasn't entirely surprising. In fact, when Lee got an UNKNOWN blip on his dradis, I said, "Oh look, it's Kara." Well, I said it very quietly. Absolutely silently, in fact, because my mom was asleep. In any case, my only question for that was, "Why isn't she showing up as a friendly? It's not like she had a non-reg ship, right?" Only maybe she did. Maybe it was an Eaaaaarth ship. I dunno.
I'm amused that last week I thought it was Sam's voice saying "We're cylons" when in fact it was the Chief.
Based on the opera house scenes, I'd be kind of inclined to say that Laura can't be the final fifth, because otherwise she'd be in two places at once: chasing Hera down some steps and being all blazy-white on the balcony. She could be an exciting thirteenth of some sort, of course, to match the thirteenth colony. I suppose it still could be Kara — Tyrol or Anders said something about the music being like a thing from childhood, and Kara's been drawing her mandala since childhood. And she wasn't on the ship to hear or not hear the music.
And where did Gaius get snatched off to? Is there a commune of greasy-hair-loving women?
And if Tyrol is a cylon, why isn't baby Nicholas being made more fuss over? I think I'm inclined to go with the line of thought that says these cylons aren't normal cylons.
I must say that despite being totally gripped up in the current storyline, I'm rather disappointed as to how they abandoned a great deal of the original mythos and setup. All the stuff about gods and prophecies and history repeating itself and whatnot — really, it got kind of abandoned even after Elosha died. These days, there are no twelve pythian serpents coiling on a podium; rather, there are "oracles" who seem to have psychic links with the cylons.
I want to go to sleep now, so it's time to stop. :)
Ainsley, you can stop grinning about the Dylan now, 'kay? :)

You might not have been mistaken...
Date: 2007-03-27 05:31 am (UTC)Hrm... I remembered the phrasing being slightly different in the preview. It might be that there was a Sam line they used for the "next week on", and they cut it in the final edit, and figured we wouldn't mind since there was a very similar Chief line.
I should double-check on TiVo. If I do, I'll keep you posted...
BTW, we don't know that those four are cylons. It's unclear whether (a) they suddenly had new memories opened up and realized they were cylons, or (b) they all experienced Weird Musical JuJu and leapt to the (not implausisble) conclusion that they were #s 8-11. After all, as Tigh notes, he at least has a well-established history going back to when toasters looked like toasters. If he's a cylon, there's a lot of backstory they haven't told us yet.
In any event, I know what song I'll be listening to a lot over the next year looking for clues. Which leaves open the big question: Dylan or Hendrix?
OTOH

OKAY, I JUST WATCHED IT
Date: 2007-03-29 02:40 pm (UTC)What? WHAT? HOW? I'M SO CONFUSED. Especially by Da Chief (he's too pudgy and adorable to be a cylon!) and moreso by Apparently Cylon Starbuck. HOW DID THEY NOT FIGURE THAT OUT WHEN THEY OPENED HER UP ON "THE FARM." Seriously, what? MAN, DANG.
Also, I most certainly DO appreciate the confluence of Bob Dylan and BSG, but DANG could they have found a dorkier cover to play at the end? I guess Bob's licensing fees must be enormous. Matt's theory is that that metal plate in the ship was picking up ancient radio waves from Earth, which only gives my hope that next season the cylons on Galactica will be rocking out to subsequent Earth hits such as "Bohemian Rhapsody" or perhaps "Tainted Love."
Re: OKAY, I JUST WATCHED IT
Date: 2007-03-29 04:28 pm (UTC)On the topic of Bob Dylan and that cover, you might want to look at the show composer's blog, in which he talks all about it. Doesn't explain why they're using that particular song, but it does explain why they're using that version or a "real" song at all.
Some people, of course, are debating whether Dylan or Hendrix is the final cylon, but I'm sure you'd go with Dylan. ;)
