I was googling for information about yellow mushrooms, and one of the pages had the following Google summary:

"The poisonous yellow staining mushroom, or yellow stainer, can grow to over 10 cm in diameter. It is easily mistaken for a horse."

Well, the yellow staining mushroom isn't actually one that I've come into contact with. India ink has a fairly recognizable scent, though, so it might mean that. I agree that "inky" isn't an adjective I'd usually apply to a scent!
