A) No, but B) how could they be, I don't have anyone here on my friend's list! :) (Though one person does have an lj.) If anything, actually, my stats should be decreasing, because I've added people since I've been here whom I've never met. OTOH, there's pseudomonas now, as well.

Quite conceivably. But then again, I've dated two people on my friends list, and that's quite a large percentage. And having wolfemancs wandering around the house (or lying out in his car) sans shirt isn't going to "help" my stats in that category, either. :)

That test is really confused; it gave me stats for kissing and phone sex, which weren't any of the categories on the original form, by moving my ticks around randomly. Plus my friends list is too short and contains the (only) two people I've slept with, so my stats are going to be appalling.

Your stats are quite revealing though: you've made out with someone that you haven't dated, and that someone is on your friends list. This could be a fruitful source of speculation!

Y'know, a lot of this could depend on people having different definitions of these two categories. I mean, I've had more than one serious involvment in my life and I'm married now, but sfaict from quizzing USAn friends about definitions, I don't think I've ever "dated" in my life.

I interpreted dated to mean gone out with as opposed to gone on a date with. Cos the latter really doesn't seem to be a prevalent custom this side of the pond. And because I have a fairly strong inkling that's how darcydodo was interpreting it, and she's after all American (despite all our best efforts to civilize her).

I assume you're addressing that question to Americans, rather than me! Cos that's one thing I never worked out.

When I was going out with an American, I discovered that the language barrier wasn't too bad in general (apart from the fact that I used to get in severe trouble for mentioning that it exists at all). But our sexual slang failed almost completely to overlap.

Make out maps in my head onto get off with, but I'm not at all sure that's right, or if it just got misfiled. And anyway, get off with seems to mean different things to different people (maybe a regional thing?) Lack of precision in these things is really most inconvenient.

Yeah, it's a regional thing. I'd say "made out with" was probably meant to be closer to "pulled", but that's also a regional thing.

I always felt made out with was somewhat equivalent to snogged. Although I guess it usually only applies to the first few times you do it. After that, you're a couple, and it's just kissing.

"Make out with" means something closely approximating "snog." I've never heard of there being regional differences for it, especially none so drastic as livredor's misconception. It is often, but not necessarily, applied to snogging done in a place that is really not appropriate for such an action.

Uses in sentences:

It turns out that when Tommy was looking for Billy and Joann yesterday, the two of them were busy making out in the woodshed.

I would've enjoyed the movie, but there were some kids making out in the row in front of me, and it was very distracting.

I made out with Ryan once, but he slobbers, and I'm never kissing him again.

I don't think it necessarily implies non-dating, as tzeentch suggested, although it certainly can, and it's more than simple kissing. If you're familiar with the term "necking," I think the two are pretty much on par. And it can definitely imply feeling up, etc, but it doesn't have to, if the kissing is heavy enough. ;)
