So last night I went with Anselm and
girlwithjournal to Koutoubia, which is a Moroccan restaurant on Westwood. I had to drink everybody's mint tea, because no one else liked it; and although I liked it well enough, it wasn't the best mint tea I've ever had. And then the waiter tried to pour more. (Well, he did pour more, actually, but it didn't get drunk.) And we're definitely getting
girlwithjournal to like alcohol; she had a margatini. It's useful being over 21 when you go out with minors; if the waiter says "You are over twenty-one, right?" you can reply affirmatively with a perfectly straight face.
Since the restaurant was Moroccan, the waiters all spoke French, and since they kept slipping little random bits into their speech, it was difficult not to go ahead and practice my French. :)
Afterwards, I dropped
girlwithjournal off at her house and got to a) meet
filmgeek, b) see the famous snowglobe collection, and c) meet the adorable cat Marmalade to whom I am definitely allergic. Sorry, Girl. Oh, and you and
filmgeek do look somewhat alike. But you look very much like your dad, even more so than I thought at first when I was comparing you with my memory of your dad.
Today we're headed up to Cambria, so that should be fun. And
girlwithjournal also re-lent me Buffy season 1, so I can try and corrupt both Anselm and my father into watching it. Anselm's perfectly agreeable to this; my father will, by contrast, present a huge challenge. But I shall try, oh yes, I shall try!

Date: 2003-07-31 11:44 pm (UTC)That really works in the Bay area? I've always found California one of the more tricky states to drink in (even though I have now been over 21 for some years!) Well, I guess in SoCal it's OK if you go to Chinese or Mexican run restaurants, maybe even Italian-owned.
My brother was once Id'd when he ordered an *alcohol free* beer! And I have been ID checked once in the bar area, and then again in the restaurant of the same establishment. But in New York, I've never even been asked for ID.

Date: 2003-08-05 01:49 pm (UTC)The time in NYC was amusing actually: going into the bar they were randomly ID'ing some of us. So the 45 year old guy with us got ID'd. The 17 year old girl didn't. Lucky for us really!
