Reason for LJ username: It stems from my sophomore year of high school when I was tired of always being the one everyone expected to have the right answers, or was depended on to pull the group project through with an A or was asked constantly if my homework could be copied because everyone knew I'd done it and done it right. I wanted to be able to declare myself stupid for the day and not need to live up to everyone's expectations of me, so if I did screw up I wouldn't feel so damn much like I'd let everyone, myself included, down. So when I decided to come up with an internet moniker, nongenius seemed an appropriate choice. And I've been using it for everything ever since.
Why do you enjoy reading my LJ: I recognized you from the Sunday100, and then I found out you friended me, and now you're one of the many nifty people I would never have known about without the internet.
Interesting fact about you: Uh... I'm half Japanese, but I look very white.
Weird fact about you: I like to pop my toes

Name a website worth visiting: www.gpf-comics.com an online comic that's pretty complex and well written, with an ongoing 2-3 year arc that I'm still waiting to see play out
Will you post this in your LJ: sure, why not
If you see me out in the streets would you say hi: Depends on if I was paying attention. I've been known to pass by good friends without even noticing. But if I saw you and I knew it was you and I didn't owe you money, then yes, of course I would.

Why do you enjoy reading my LJ: i've had limited exposure to your lj. but it's pretty darned clever.

Date: 2003-08-06 01:20 am (UTC)Very cool. I like Edward Gorey. I don't think I have any first editions, though, especially as I only have one or two things by him. Someone once gave me a Christmas card that he'd done, with a bunch of people hanging up Christmas ornaments, except one of the people was an alligator. ;)

Date: 2003-08-06 11:19 pm (UTC)There is (or at least was) this program on PBS (public television over here) called "Mystery!" that showed various mystery programs, including Inspector Morse and the like, and Edward Gorey drew the title sequence. It was, of course, very amusing.

Why do you enjoy reading my LJ: Coz I can find out what you are up to without actually having to speak to you ha ha.
Interesting fact about you: I can quote the entire of John Cleese and Peter Cook's 'Interesting Facts' sketch verbatim.
Weird fact about you: I listen to Wagner and carry out contour integration for pleasure.

Date: 2003-08-07 11:55 am (UTC)Reason for LJ username: When I started using internet messengers one of my friends complained that he was getting me confused with his girlfriend, also called Emily. I thought this was probably a bad thing, and changed myself to Elemy. It was a nickname I had in younger years; not used much or by many people, but I thought it was sweet.
Why do you enjoy reading my LJ: I want to keep up with what's going on in your life now that you've deserted all your friends in England (sob!). And I like your sense of humour
Interesting fact about you: I'm a 7 times great niece of Captain James Stirling who founded Perth in Australia, which also makes me related to Jemima Khan (wife of the cricketer). Sorry if that's not interesting enough, it's the best I can do at short notice.
Weird fact about you: My favourite food used to be the wrappers off the straws you get in Starbucks. The Haagen Daz cafes did good straw wrappers too, but I prefered Starbucks'.
Who are your favorite characters in fiction (name up to ten): Lord Peter Wimsey, R2D2, Peter Rabbit and Tom Kitten (from Beatrix Potter), Lessa from Anne McCaffrey's Pern sequence, but in her original vision of her, not the grown up watered-down later version. Oh and my inner concept of myself, I'm fairly sure she's fictional.

Will you post this in your LJ: Yes, when I get around to it, don't think I have time now, I've got a train to catch.
If you see me out in the streets would you say hi:
Well if I met you on the streets today I'd be more likely to squeal loudly, hug you, bounce a lot and say "Darcy what on earth are you doing in England?" But if I were expecting to see you, you might get away with a simple "Hi".
